District Archive of Makariv and District Archive of Byshiv were opened about in the late 20’s of the XX century. There isn’t any information about existence of Archives during the Soviet period.

Documents for the years 1923-1936 (18284 documents, 55 funds) had been kept in the State District Archive of Makariv and documents for the years 1929-1937 (5706 documents, 25 funds) had been kept in the State District Archive of Byshiv before the Great Patriotic War (by June, 1941). Modern name of the Archive – Archival Department of the State district Administration of Makariv.

All the documents were destroyed by German occupants during the War (Acts of December 13, 1944 and of July 11, 1944).

District of Makariv was occupied on 10 July 1941 and released on 8 November 1943.

Archive resumed its work in 1944.

In 1959 Byshiv District was adjoined to Makariv District. Part of documents from Archive of Byshiv were trensfered to Archive of Makariv. Another part – sent to the Archive of Kiev Region.

By the year 1959 District Archive had been subordinated to Ministry of the Interior and locally – to chief of Makariv’s police.

From 1959 Archive was subordinated to District Executive Committee of Makariv and to Archival department of Kiev Regional Executive Committee.

From 1989 Archive was subordinated to State Archive of Kiev Region.

From 1992 Archive became an Archival department of the State district Administration of Makariv, from 1994 – Archival department of Makariv District Council, from 1995 - Archival department of the State district Administration of Makariv and was subordinated controlled by Administration and State Archive of Kiev Region.

Documents which are kept in Archival department are assigned to National Archive Fund (NAF).

From 20 July 1951 to 1956 Anatolii Onufriyovych Geracymenko worked as a head of Archive.

Yurii Maksymovych Paliienko has been working as a head of Archive from 1956 to 1958.

In 1958 Mariya Dementiyivna Ilchenko became a head of Archive, she worked on this post till 1996, from 1996 to 2000 – Solomenko Tamila Volodymyrivna.

From 2000 Kravets Yuliya Volodymyrivna is working as a head of Archive
